DC Area Bars are Excited to Celebrate the National’s World Series Victory

November 11 11:12 2019

Washington, DC – For the first time in franchise history (including the franchise’s stint as the Montreal Expos), the Washington Nationals are World Series Champions. For the 4th time in the past 6 years, the series went all the way to game 7. It was also notably the only series in the history of American sports where the home team lost all 7 games. Stephen Strasburg, one of the Nationals’ star pitchers, was awarded World Series MVP.

Despite the Nationals’ inability to win the three games they hosted at Nationals Park, both the team and the community could not be happier with the final outcome of the series. The capital region has not had the chance to enjoy a World Series victory since 1924 when the Washington Senators were able to squeeze by the then-New York Giants in 7 games. With a successful baseball season officially behind them, the people of Washington DC are now ready to celebrate.

Cortez DC, described as a “Mexican rooftop bar in the historical Shaw neighborhood of Washington DC” is one of just many bars within the city that is anticipating a particularly active weekend, full of Nationals fans and celebrations. With the Nationals’ victory parade — scheduled for Saturday, November 2 — taking place less than two miles away, the bar’s beloved tequila cocktails and other drinks are expected to be flowing even more than usual.

Since it first opened in 2018, Cortez has had the privilege of watching both the Washington Capitals and the Washington Nationals win and celebrate their first franchise championships. These two championships helped end a more than 25-year drought for all of the “big four” DC professional sports times.

In addition to Cortez, many other bars in the neighborhood are expecting days (even weeks) of festive celebrations as well. The Boardwalk DC, for example, is “absolutely ecstatic” that its grand opening coincides with such a monumental moment for the city. Elsewhere, bars such as TAKODA are planning to stock up on locally made beers, recognizing that — perhaps more than anything else — this was truly a victory made by the community as a whole.
