STRANGEST ANIMATED FEATURE OF THE YEAR, ‘VIOLENCE VOYAGER’, RECEIVES DIGITAL RELEASE

VIOLENCE VOYAGER // DARKCOAST
Are you ready for adventures in a weird and twisted world?

Los Angeles, CA – Oct 12, 2019 – If there was an award for the year’s most gonzo animated feature, it can be given out early. Surely nothing else in 2019 will be quite as odd and unnerving as ‘VIOLENCE VOYAGER’ by Japanese artist Ujicha,” wrote Cartoon Brew.

DarkCoast announces the release of writer/director, Ujicha’s horror-anime, VIOLENCE VOYAGER, which available on digital platforms Oct. 21st.

Known for The Burning Buddha Man, Ujicha’s VIOLENCE VOYAGER is his second feature incorporating the unique 2-D animation technique, “Gekimation”, which he worked on for five years. “Gekimation” is a detailed technique employing meticulous hand-painted paper cutouts, created in-camera effects with light and fluids.

“While the 2-D drawings encompass most of the film’s characters and backgrounds, the 3-D affects range from simple liquids representing blood and throw-up to actual fireworks being used to for explosions. The result is a film with a much more amateurish feel, but also a more uneasy one, which greatly amplifies the movie’s horror elements,” wrote Animated Observations.

Set in the present-day Japanese countryside, two friends, Bobby (Aoi Yûki) and Akkun (Shigeo Takahashi), set on an adventure to visit a friend on the other side of the mountain. Taking a shortcut, the friends soon stumble upon an amusement park called “Violence Voyager”. But when the friendly owner, Koike, lets them enter, grotesque mutation, dismemberment and ultimate scientific-chaos is unleashed. Working alongside the parks’ other captured children, together they must fend off a number of attacks as they gradually learn the truth behind the facility.

“Ujicha has created something truly unique: an anime movie unlike any other anime or horror story you’ll ever see,” wrote CBR, headlining “Violence Voyager Is the Most Demented & Brutal Anime Film of the Year.”

Receiving several award-wins including “Best Animated Feature” at Fantastic Fest, DarkCoast will release VIOLENCE VOYAGER onto digital streaming platforms Oct. 21 (Amazon, DirecTV, FlixFling, VImeo on Demand, Vudu, FANDANGO and AT&T).
