Columbia, Mo. – In two and a half years, Bike to the Future, a partner of Love INC, has given away 400 bicycles, helmets and locks to Columbia residents in need. That means easier access to jobs, shopping and healthcare for people that have transportation challenges which can hinder their success with employment or the ability to do everyday tasks that many take for granted.
The volunteer-led initiative takes donated bikes, repairs them and gives them to recipients through a verification process managed by Love INC in Columbia. “This program is impacting lives in powerful ways,” says Greg DeLine, president of the board for Love INC in Columbia. “I encourage anyone in Columbia that is not using that bicycle sitting in their garage to donate it to this cause. Trust us when we say it will be put to good use.”
The volunteer partnership seeks to provide simple transportation to access these important areas of life. Shopping, getting to a bus stop, doing laundry, and other daily activities become extremely difficult to manage without transportation.
If Columbia residents know of someone in need of a bike, have them call Love INC to get the request started. It’s easy and efficient.
