June 04, 2019 – Oakland, CA – A ray of light for those in quest of mighty inspiration to thrive against challenges and odds. Famous gospel singer and musician Nona Brown has recently released her new single that extends the much needed fillip to overcome dire adversity. Beautifully titled “We Are Healed”, the single delivers a strong message of hope and healing from three brave cancer survivors.
“We Are Healed” comes after Brown’s latest release after “Salty” which was released last summer, and featured legendary gospel musician Richard Smallwood. It’s the first track from the award-winner singer and musician’s live recording titled “Nona Brown – Songs From My Journal”. Four-time GRAMMY award winner the late Edwin Hawkins was the producer of the project but sadly he passed away while it was in-the-making. Nona herself took up the baton on his behalf to complete the project.
The new release is a powerful composition which is based on an uplifting conversation between 3 braveheart cancer survivors- Nona Brown herself, Ashling Cole and Pastor Tracy Perrilliat. While Brown and Cole have survived breast cancer, Perrilliat had her inspiring tryst with colon cancer.

Yes, we have been in extreme pain and fear but we never lost our faith in ourselves, the Lord and the power of worship. Finally, despite all the struggles and challenges, we have been able to ‘rise up’ against our odds. And today, we stand here in agreement that ‘we are healed’. Life is beautiful and if you believe in yourself and have the Almighty’s blessings, you will thrive with glory”, stated Brown who has co-produced the single with Byron Williams.
“We Are Healed” begins with a highly motivating and dramatic spoken-word introduction by Lynette Hawkins-Stephens. As Stephens’ strong voice sets the healing tone amid quivering piano tunes, Nona steps in with her powerful and touching storytelling. She is joined by her fellow brave sisters soon and together they engage into varying conversations that are both soul-stirring and uplifting. The conversations are followed by a lovely harmonized chorus which concludes the single on a beautiful note.
Nona’s new single has achieved rave reviews from several quarters. Many have praised the strong lyrics (penned by Brown herself) and the narrative featured on the single while the singers’ soul-touching voices have also been able to struck a chord with the listeners. “We Are Healed” sweeps the listeners to a wonderful journey, layered with breathtaking vocals, refined intonation and phrases and a positive message. All the tones that make up the single are perfectly pitched while the delicate soft phrases are woven with care to transcend one from darkness to light.

Nona Brown is a much revered award-winning musician from San Francisco Bay region whose musical journey spans across more than 3 decades. Over the years, she has worked with several big artists in gospel music, like Lenny Williams, The Fray, Pattie LaBelle, Mickey Thomas and Stephan Jenkins. She has worked in the position of choir coordinator for Josh Groban’s Northern California tour and has also been the guest vocalist at Legends Ball by Oprah Winfrey. At present, Brown is a member of iconic gospel musician Edwin Hawkins’ New Edwin Hawkins Singers.
