Having a good sleep at night is very healthy as it allows one to have enough rest after a busy day. Ensuring you have enough rest at night is also very beneficial as it rejuvenates your strength for the following day. However, having interrupted night sleep will deny you enough time to have a good rest and thus this will interfere with your productivity the following day. One of the known conditions that can interrupt your sleep at night is sleep Apnea. Sleep Apnea is a condition that results from breathing difficulties while asleep. Sleep Apnea is a treatable disorder and one way to treat this disorder effectively is by using the CPAP machines.

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a kind of disorder that occurs one is asleep as results of breathing difficulties. There is a pause in breathing that can last up to 10 seconds or in extreme case it can last up to a minute. Once one resume breathing again, one might make a loud grunt or choking sound. This is a very serious condition since it deprives enough oxygen to the brain and the body.

Two types of sleep Apnea exist and these are the Obstructive Sleep Apnea and the Central Sleep Apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea results from obstructions in the airways. It happens when the soft tissues found at the back of the throat collapses while asleep. On the other hand, the central sleep apnea results from the brain. It happens when the brain fails to send the impulse to the body or to the breathing muscle and thus causing the breathing process to stop for some few seconds.

About CPAP Machines

CPAP or the continuous positive airway pressure machines are machines used to help individuals having obstructive sleep apnea so as to enhance their breathing. In other words, these machines help to improve the breathing process by widening the airways. The CPAP machines increase the pressure of the air in the throat so as to ensure that the airways do not collapse. Individuals suffering from obstructive sleep apnea may be advised to make use of CPAP machines while sleeping at night. These machines normally consist of three parts which are.

1. The Motor.

The CPAP machines have a motor that plays the role of sucking air at room temperatures and is also the source of the much-needed pressure that ensures your airways doesn’t collapse. There is a filter that is fitted at the machine inlet and it helps to prevent unwanted particles from entering into the system. The motors produce negligible noise and hence can not disrupt your sleep or that of others in other rooms. There are some CPAP machines that have humidifier consisting of a litter tank of water. If you turn the power on the water get warmer and thus enable you to breathe air that is moist other than dry air.

2. Mask.

The masks used with the CPAP machines are available in various shape and sizes so as to suits the specific needs of the user. There are three main sorts of a mask which are the nasal mask, full face mask, and nasal pillow. The nasal pillow is normally placed under your upper lip and is then fastened to head by use of straps.

Air under pressure comes through the mask via two tubes inserted in the nostrils. The full face mask covers your mouth and nose and is likewise kept in place by straps. The most common mask is the nasal mask as it comes in different sizes and hence one can choose the one that fits him/her.
