Recipient of the Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development Director of the Year Award, Dr. Frank L. Douglas, releases an autobiography, Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream.

Dr. Douglas has published an autobiography, titled “Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream”, in which he describes how the values with which he was inculcated as a youngster, in Guyana, enabled him to confront and overcome racial discrimination in America. He also reveals that the secret to success is taking the road less well traveled and having true grit.

In 1963, the year of the murder of Medgar Evers, civil rights marches, and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, twenty-year old Douglas arrived in the United States to study Engineering at Lehigh University. He went on to acquire his Ph. D. and M.D. from Cornell University, and Residency in Internal Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. The curious and motivated young man was shocked by the racial discrimination he experienced from white Americans and the cultural prejudices he encountered from black Americans. However, he decided to take control of his own future through hard work, grit and the road less well traveled. Thus he went from growing up in poverty in Guyana to becoming a highly successful and responsible citizen of the USA with several recognitions and accolades to his name. Important among these has been the leadership of organizations that discovered, developed, and/or received marketing approval of drugs for the treatment of diseases, such as, Diabetes, Cancer, Seizure, Arthritis, Osteoporosis and Seasonal Rhinitis.

Inspirational and compelling, the book contains a story of race, pain, loss, survival, perseverance, harnessing and acquiring power and ultimately achieving success. It contains examples that illustrate ways of dealing with racial discrimination in society, academia and industry. The book demonstrates how valuing others is in itself a way to overcome prejudice. In the book, the author also celebrates his mother and others who helped him rise and become the man he is.

The book is currently available on Amazon for readers worldwide.
