Eric Schettl who is known for his cameos and roles in popular American shows like ‘The deleted’, ‘Celebrity Ghost Stories’ and ‘Happy Hour’. He is currently working to finance and produce his feature-length film titled “The American Dream”, where he plays the role of a conflicted rapper who is caught between fame and the real world. He is a talented actor and producer who developed an interest in acting early in his life. He was also accepted to study at the only conservatory to make the Hollywood reporters Top 25 drama schools in the world.

He was given a request audition in the Broadway show Vanya Sonia Masha and spike” at the Berkeley Rep Theatre in California, and even for the movie, Doctor Strange. Soon after, he discovered an interest in producing and founded his own play production company named “Danny in the Deep Blue Sea”, which garnered the attention of London based writer, director and producer Adam Del Giudice of international film production company Elevated Pictures.

In this candid interview, he shares his journey into the Hollywood industry, as well as ongoing and upcoming projects.

Interviewer: Tell us something about your background?

Eric Schettl: When I was 18 I decided to pursue my career as an actor. Before growing my creative interests and abilities I had only focused on my left brain type pursuits in school.

I decided to move to LA and I completed the 2-year conservatory at William Esper Studio (one of Hollywood Reporter’s top 25 drama schools in the world) soon after I was invited for the 2-year masterclass with Bill Esper.

With even more motivation and world-class training, I pursued bigger auditions and was requested to audition for Marvel casting associates Jason B. Stamy (The Lion King (2019), Black Panther (2018) and Avengers: Infinity War) and Sarah Finn Casting (Crash (2004), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Black Panther (2018)

Interviewer: What inspired you to choose acting, as a career?

Eric Schettl: It was after watching, “The Secret”, a documentary about law of attraction and my analytical brain thinking it’s bullshit yet something deep within me ignited with interest.

It was this new knowledge of law of attraction that caused me to realize I define my own version of success and it’s within my power to become who I want.

My decision specifically to become an actor was inspired by the resonating range of feelings like determination, inspiration, hope, and fear that great movies instilled in me. It’s what connects the audience to the acting and story. Through my performance, I want to inspire others to take their own risks and find their truth by following the examples that great movies set.

Interviewer: What are some of your favorite projects you have worked on?

Eric Schettl: Producing my play, “Danny and The Deep Blue Sea”, was an amazing experience. Working with director Jonathan “Yoni” Stein taught me so much about facing challenges head on to achieve.

Yoni had amazingly effective yet unconventional ideas that intuitively helped each actor in their own way.  For me, it was about getting out of the comfort zone and into the right mindset by any means necessary. At times he’d even physically confront me to put me where I needed to be mentally for the role.

Interviewer: What do you enjoy more, acting or producing?

Eric Schettl: Oh fuck! I love connecting with people as much as I love sitting alone during my morning meditation. Both acting and producing have their own reward. When you have a great team it makes you always want to get better as both an actor or producer.

While producing allows me to connect through my craft, it’s ultimately acting that requires me to stay committed to always getting better and pushing limits.

I’m following in the footsteps of great method actors like Jake Gyllenhaal to the furthest extent of the imagination. In the same way, Gyllenhaal commits to daily world-class boxing training starting at 5:30 am and actual full contact sparring, my latest movie, “The American Dream”, will lead me to fully submerging myself in the role of the rap star.

Acting exercises like channeling the saddest idea imaginable in order to keep my acting chops up is what I love to do to stay sharp.

Will Smith says, “When you’re always ready, you don’t have to get ready.” It’s this opportunity that acting gives me as a clear challenge and producing is part of the plan to achieve it.

Interviewer: Tell us something about your latest film, “The American Dream”?

Eric Schettl: Think, “A Star Is Born”, makes love to, “The Notebook”, and their lovechild is Thor Ragnorok. It’s an immersive story with a lot of drama as well as contrasting comedy.

Interviewer: As an actor, what type of roles you enjoy the most?

Eric Schettl: I need a role that’s going to push my limits mentally and challenge me to grow as an actor.  I always want to push myself to bring something unique to the character. I always strive to bring something unexpected and my favorite roles allow me to discover those moments and characteristics. I never want to phone in my performance.

That being said, I love superhero films and plan to be in the next Green Lantern film.

Interviewer: Tell us something about your current and upcoming projects?

Eric Schettl: I plan to use the same business model and concepts as movies like Talladega Nights. Where the storyline allows placement for strategic brand endorsements and products. Which allows new business growth and opportunities like major expansion and collaboration among the partner such as:

– Pro football endorsements.

– Major gym endorsements.
