BOC Sciences Updated Its Nucleosides Synthesis Service for Science Community
BOC Sciences’ management announced to update its nucleosides synthesis service in response to addressing customers’ varied needs this month.

New York, March 20, 2019—As one of the world’s leading chemical vendors, BOC Sciences’ management announced to update its nucleosides synthesis service in response to addressing customers’ varied needs this month.

Nucleosides are composed of a nitrogenous base and a five-carbon sugar (ribose or deoxyribose). They share great similarity with nucleotides and can be thought as nucleotides without a phosphate group. Both Nucleosides and Nucleotides are the basic building blocks of nucleic acids. Together with proteins, lipids and polysaccharides, DNA/RNA forms the four major types of essential macromolecules for all living organisms. The transcription and translation of DNA/RNA control all the activities of living organisms, which depend on the nitrogenous base sequence.

“In addition to its role in genetic information expression, nucleosides are also involved with cell metabolism, ATP for example, which is an energy substance in cell,” says Prof. Barron, a senior scientist from BOC Sciences. “The nucleosides we commonly see are cytidine, guanosine, thymidine, uridine, adenosine and inosine. We now have hundreds of nucleosides ready for use at BOC Sciences, including fluorescent nucleosides, antimetabolic nucleosides, cancer and proliferation marker nucleosides.”

Based on structure, nucleosides falls into the following categories, 2′,3′-Dideoxy-Nucleosides, 2′-Deoxy-Nucleosides, 3′-Deoxy-Nucleosides, Ara-Nucleosides, Protected-Nucleosides, Ribo-Nucleosides, etc.

“At present, a full spectrum of high quality specialty nucleoside synthesis services are available at BOC Sciences. Different needs can be met on synthesis scales, modifications and purifications thanks to our abundant experience and advanced technologies,” further explains Mr. Barron. “Through innovational research, our scientists have developed some modified structures of nucleosides, which have enhanced performances comparing with the naturally occurring 2’-deoxyribose or ribose based nucleosides. We believe the more choices are, the better for our customers.”

The application of nucleosides is quite far-ranged. First and foremost, nucleosides analogues can be used as antiviral or anticancer agents in medicine. Furthermore, dideoxynucleotides can be used in sequencing. These nucleotides possess the non-canonical sugar dideoxyribose, which lacks 3’ hydroxyl group (which accepts the phosphate) and therefore cannot bond with the next base and terminates the chain.
