Kathy Sdao has always had a strong bond with animals ever since she was little. She spent her graduate years in University of Hawaii training dolphins to solve complex cognitive puzzles. Upon receiving her master’s degree in experimental psychology, she was hired by the United States Navy to train dolphins to do open-ocean tasks. Kathy also spent some years at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium training marine mammals like beluga, whales, walruses, sea lions, otters, and even polar bears. After leaving the zoo, Kathy, along with another colleague opened Puget Hound Daycare, Tacoma’s first doggy daycare. It is here where Kathy began teaching clicker-training classes for pet owners.
The topics during the seminar that Kathy will be conducting in the UK will be spread over two days. It will cover topics like identifying each canine’s varied reinforcers and using them frequently to create long-lasting behavioral changes. It also covers carefully creating and maintaining clear and consistent behavioral signal and knowing its limits. The seminar will also explore the importance of non-violence in animal training and in dealing with frustrated pet owners as well. For those interested in attending the seminar, they can purchase Surrey tickets and West Yorkshire tickets from Positive Animal Solutions‘ site. Tickets go on sale online at 7 p.m. on Friday, 12th of April 2019.
