Marvell Tell III is Jumping up the Draft Board with an Explosive Performance at the 2019 NFL Combine

Columbia, South Carolina – March 13, 2019 – The 2019 NFL Combine is over but its buzz continues; especially for University of Southern California defensive back, Marvell Tell III. Tell was first or second in every category in which he tested. His 6.63 second L Drill, which evaluates a player’s ability to change direction on the field, was the fastest at the Combine. His 42” vertical leap, 11’4” broad jump, and 4.01 second short shuttle, which tests lateral mobility, were second best overall among all Combine competitors. These accomplishments are particularly impressive considering that Tell suffered a high-ankle sprain at the end of the 2018 regular season and was not able to train fully for many of the Combine drills until recently. Tell will run his 40 yard dash and participate in the bench press at the USC pro day on March 20, 2019.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah reports that in addition to his free safety position in college, some NFL teams view Tell as a press corner. “This is rare,” he says. “Usually, we see corners transition to safety after not testing well, but Tell (6’2” 198lbs) was so explosive that some teams now view him as a corner.”

“The USC product opened some eyes with his explosive jumps (42” vertically and 11’4” broad) and solid footwork in drills. Tell has better than anticipated range and ball skills, which will help his status as a Day 2 prospect if he runs a solid 40 at his pro day,” adds former NFL scout and current NFL Network analyst, Bucky Brooks.

After being named one of four defensive back Combine winners by NFL.com, Tell is poised to raise his draft stock even further with a strong performance at the USC pro day.

A current NFL general manager, who asked to remain anonymous, stated recently that Tell could easily become the face of the modern NFL defensive secondary due to his speed, size, leaping ability, arm length, wing span, and ability to play multiple positions. The general manager added, “A player with his ability is rare. Expect him to rise in the draft.”
