Regent University’s Institute for Cybersecurity Offers CyberSec First Responder (CFR-310), Newly Approved as DoD-8570 Compliant

February 27 22:00 2019

Virginia Beach, Virginia – Regent University’s Institute for Cybersecurity, a rising lead provider of commercial instructor-led technical training, is pleased to announce that the CyberSec First Responder (CFR-310) training and certification program is now added to their public training schedule and is approved as United States Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 8570 compliant. The DoD-8570 Directive provides guidance and procedures for the training, certification, and management of all DoD employees involved with Information Assurance functions. CFR is now an approved Baseline Certification, verifying the skills necessary to perform certain job functions.

The number of exceptional IT security breaches continues to grow exponentially, which is part of an overall trend toward increasingly destructive hacking incidents. These hacking incidents further highlight the enormous demand for qualified security professionals who can protect their organizations’ networks and prevent significant losses. Delivered in an instructor-led setting over a five-day period, CyberSec First Responder is designed for information assurance professionals who perform job functions related to the development, operation, management, and enforcement of security capabilities for systems and networks.

Although the DoD-8570 approval only affects those who directly work with the DoD, the CyberSec First Responder exam validates all security professionals to being the first line of response against cyber-attacks by teaching students to analyze threats, design secure computing and network environments, proactively defend networks, and respond to and investigate cybersecurity incidents. Upon completion of the course, students are able to sit for the high-stakes Certified CyberSec First Responder exam virtually or in-person.

“The addition of this course demonstrates Regent Institute for Cybersecurity’s ability to deliver training for today’s most in-demand cyber security certifications,” says Regent Institute’s Executive Director, Stephanie Butts. “It also demonstrates our ability to support training and certification programs that have reached the highest degree of recognition possible in the IT certification space.”

As a core component of the newly launched Certified Cyber Practitioner™ (CCP™) program, Regent enhances the baseline Logical Operations CFR course by adding cyber range focused exercises to seven of the twelve modules, including two adversary simulation scenarios using their multimillion dollar cyber-range.  By integrating CFR principles and applying advanced theory with experiential training, students are enabled to demonstrate their proficiency in cyber defense.  Trainees will also receive a copy of the Blue Team Handbook, Incident Response Edition including the draft PowerShell content, authored by the Institute’s lead facilitator and scenario designer, Mr. Don Murdoch, GSE #99.

“We’re extremely proud to announce the approval of CyberSec First Responder to DoD-8570, and welcome a partnership with Regent University’s Institute for Cybersecurity to bring this to the market,” said Megan Branch, COO of CertNexus. “Here at CertNexus, we understand that people are the key to protecting an organization’s network; even with the best hardware and software solutions, an organization won’t be fully protected without properly trained professionals. Our expertise in the IT security training field has allowed us to create a certification program that uniquely meets the training needs of today’s security professionals and organizations everywhere.”
