VETERANS “RUNNING THE SHOW(S)” IN SMALL BUSINESS — LITERALLY DAV AND HIRING AMERICA TELEVISION SHOW PARTNER FOR SECOND SEASON OF VETERANS EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT

February 26 16:02 2019

New York, N.Y., FEB.26, 2019 — TWELVE MILLION U.S. VETERANS in the labor market . . . 3.8 MILLION ARE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS—nearly one out of every three, according to the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Veteran Business Development.

An astounding number—and tremendous opportunity—for future veteran entrepreneurs!

DAV (Disabled American Veterans), the premiere veterans support organization dedicated to empowering and helping veterans whose lives were changed as a result of military service, and Hiring America, the only national TV show devoted entirely to helping transitioning veterans prepare for and find good careers in the civilian work force, have announced a second season of working together.  This time the focus will be on the hows, whys and opportunities in becoming a successful entrepreneur and small business owner.

“We know that so many of our transitioning military personnel have outstanding management and leadership qualities learned from their service,” observed DAV National Commander Dennis Nixon. “Putting those talents to use in their own small business just makes so much sense. It’s a great benefit to them, our economy and the American labor force.”

DAV is a leader in connecting veterans with meaningful employment through a variety of activities such as hosting job fairs, providing educational, benefits assistance and vocational resources. In conjunction with Hiring America, the nation’s leading television show dedicated to the career needs of veterans, this partnership helps ensure veterans have the opportunity to participate in the American dream, which their sacrifices have made possible.

Similarly, Hiring America was created and is dedicated to giving transitioning veterans the tools, information and direction to achieve the same kind of goals.

The focus on opportunities for entrepreneurs and small business owners shines a spotlight on an area that is often misunderstood and underutilized.

“People don’t know that most companies are required by law to give 3% of their government related contracts to veterans who own and operate small businesses,” National Commander Nixon related. “It’s a great opportunity for veterans. We need to make the public, businesses—and veterans themselves—aware of this and our partnership can truly help do just that.”

“We’re going to offer some great content for our upcoming shows,” said Bill Deutch, creator and executive producer of Hiring America—which is seen weekly on nearly 200 TV stations nationwide and the American Forces Network.   “For example, we plan on focusing on veteran small business success stories, provide experts with vital information on financing, where and how to find comprehensive business training and counseling from professionals. . .and the ins and outs of access to federal contracts.  It’s all pertinent information for veterans, families, friends—their entire ecosystem of contacts and support.”

DAV services offer help to more than 1 million veterans annually.  Hiring America—now in its sixth year of production—reaches nearly two million viewers each week.
