Embracing the Art of Music Loops for Today

February 14 19:00 2019

We are currently living in the gilded age of access. Now, more than ever, it is possible to find information on any topic in the world. Of course, all of this access has provided a new platform for independent artists to get their work out into the public at large. Whether you want to be the next great rapper or rockstar, you’ll be able to get your work out to the world. One of the best ways to craft a song that is ready for the mainstream is by investing in quality loops. Whether you want to go to the website that has any sort of loops or create your own samples, loops can be the backbone of your track. Today, we are going to walk you through crafting your own hit song by building off a loop/sample base.

Using Music Loops to Craft a Hit Song

When it comes to crafting a killer song, you must have something that grabs the attention of your desired audience. You’ll see musicians of all styles in a group like the American Federation of Musicians who look to loops to act as their hook. Whether you want to sample an old pop song or just re-use beats made famous by another track, that option can be available to you. Loops can be bought or made, as we highlighted above, but either way they must be implemented in just the right way for them to make an impact.

A loop is merely a section of a song that has been cut out of the original track. Consider the rhythmic guitar that acts as a hook on several hit songs. If you were a rapper and you wanted to grab the attention of your audience, you could sample just that riff before laying down your own lyrics. Of course, you’d have to buy the rights to the sample or else get explicit permission, but that is just a professional example.

There are also professional beat makers that craft loops for the sole purpose of selling them, using things like Producer Loops. Also known as samples, you can use these samples to form the backbone of your entire track. Samples have been used forever and a famous example is how Vanilla Ice took one of Queen’s drum tracks to build his hit single. Of course, Vanilla Ice did so without permission so you probably shouldn’t follow his lead.

Once you find a sample that fits into the mood of your track, you need to lay it into your song by using music editing software. There are all kinds of different sound editing systems out there for sale. Learning how to operate these systems can be a tall task, so make sure that you take extra time in order to learn their ins and outs. Laying down a loop without properly ingratiating yourself with the system can lead to up-and-down results that end up sounding unprofessional. Otherwise, you can turn to a producer in order to have them handle all your sampling.
