Walter Schroeder loved to sketch people, especially musicians, enjoying a pint of Guinness and a Jameson at the same time. Four pubs in particular inspired most of his work: O’Connor’s, McGann’s and McDermott’s in Doolin and The Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna. While leafing through Walter’s sketch books with over 500 drawings, Corinna Schroeder-von Frihling realized that some were already yellowed or fading, the books themselves falling apart, and set out to preserve his work.

This book collects the sketches from sessions at O’Connor’s Pub in Doolin, containing 121 sketches that effectively capture the life in a traditional pub. It is a documentation of pub life and traditional Irish music. In addition to the sketches, readers also learn more about the pub’s history and the people who run it.
