YA Fantasy Author, Jobie Baldwin, releases the second novel in her Tribe Series, “Flak: An Urban Fantasy Adventure,” as she continues to live her dream of becoming an author

Middle age comes to us all, but Jobie Baldwin is living proof that you don’t need to let it slow you down. At what she calls “the ripe old age of 50”, Jobie has achieved her lifelong dream of becoming an author. Just days after her 50th birthday in October she released her first novel and has recently released the second just months later. This second novel in her Tribe series is titled “Flak: An Urban Fantasy Adventure,” the book was released on Amazon in January 2019 and has already started to receive accolades from readers across the globe.

We all know at least a couple of budding authors with a minimum of one half-written manuscript buried in the bottom of their desk draw, or in a well-hidden folder on their computer. Most of these manuscripts will never see the light of day, and even if these budding authors do eventually publish their works, the odds are they will disappear into the murky depths of anonymity among the millions of books on Amazon. One person who seems to have pushed past the apparent limits of indie publishing is Jobie Baldwin, achieving her dream of becoming an author just two days after her 50th birthday.

In October, Jobie released her first book, “Ink: An Urban Fantasy Action Adventure Novel,” the first in her Tribe series as an independent author. The novel centers on a powerful god, a magical tattoo and a rebellious teenager. It follows the adventures of Christian, an unruly English teenager, who stumbles onto a mysterious tattoo parlor, becomes immortal and gifted with magical powers which allow him to harness the forces of nature after being possessed by the Rune God, Hagalaz.

The indie author continued in the same vein with Flak, the second novel in her young adult fantasy series. Flak has become a firm favorite of many of Jobie’s fans on Amazon, less than two weeks after it was released on the platform.  The sequel chronicles the adventures of Ben, Christian’s best friend, who desperately wanted to be part of the Ink Tribe but wasn’t one of the chosen. After a botched kidnapping Ta’xet, the Haida God of Violent Death selects Ben as his host. His transformation attracts the attention of an enemy from Raven’s past and the entire Tribe become targets of an exiled Guide and a Demon intent on manipulating time to change the past.

Both books are unique and captivating, offering a fresh new take on young adult fantasy, although one reader helpfully explained that Flak could be considered a cross over between Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. The amazing use of words and her unique writing distinguishJobie’sbooks from others in the genre and accolades have continued to pour in for both novels.

“One of the most interesting takes on hero stories I have read in a long while. I really enjoyed the characters and their interactions, they are not all good little boys and girls, but have real personalities. An excellent read, and I look forward to the rest of the series,” says Valerie Ranne.
