January 21 16:15 2019

Dallas, TX – Beauty queen, motivational speaker and women’s advocate Kayla Reed is pleased to announce the release of her first book, The Unlikely Queen: Based On A True Story. An inspirational collection of nine short stories about the author’s life, the book focuses on the obstacles she was forced to overcome to become the person that she is today:

“In the book I describe a variety of different events from my childhood, some of which you may find surprising, and some quite shocking,” says Kayla. “I’m revealing some painful parts of my past for the very first time. My aim is to inspire other women and let them know that you can overcome any obstacle to become the person you truly want to be.”

The former Miss Black Dallas focuses on the most influential times of her life in nine different stories. Although one may be forgiven for presuming that Kayla was always admired for her looks, this is far from the case. As a child she was bullied and actually made fun of for her looks, and entering a beauty pageant was far from being a priority in her life.

In later years Kayla created a community service program geared toward helping single mothers gain job training skills. Her program was inspired by personally witnessing her mother struggle financially after her parents’ divorce. Realizing that beauty pageants would be an effective way of raising awareness for her program, Kayla made the decision to get involved.

“The publicity from the pageants is what I’m looking for, so I can show people that there are so many opportunities out there, no matter what your circumstances and no matter how broken you feel.”

The Unlikely Queen also describes a time in Kayla’s life when she was sexually abused by a family member, her parents’ divorce, her mother winning the lottery and much more.
