Students from Borrego Springs High School are making a stand, and making a difference. As part of a teen action-oriented volunteer club at BSHS called the Soroptimist Club, local young ladies have taken part for the second year in a row to march for women and girls in the Borrego community and in the world. Nicknamed the “S” Club at the high school, this group of teens join the local volunteer organization, Soroptimist International of Borrego Springs to encourage women and girls to follow their dreams and assist them through educational scholarships, career workshops and mentoring opportunities.
As an important way for high school students to learn about serving their community and helping others, both near and far, the “S” club was created as an outreach program of the Soroptimist organization. They have recently been involved in such significant efforts as raising money for the new Borrego Springs Library, and collecting gift cards and supplies for survivors of sex trafficking in San Diego County. This last effort is part of a major call to action as they partnered with STAT! (Soroptimists Together Against Trafficking) to join together with Soroptimist International to raise awareness about sex trafficking and the support of the survivors in the county.
