Lowest rate fairs for South African flights.
While subject to change, the flights from London to Durban at the time of writing take place every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday, and will go directly from Heathrow to King Shaka International Airport in Durban

There are many reasons travelers may want to take a trip to Durban, South Africa: gorgeous beaches, incredible safari experiences, and amazing golf courses, to name a few. Another one? Taking a flight on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which is the aircraft that will be flying the Durban route on British Airways

Travelers can Fly in Comfort on this Modern Aircraft

On this upscale, modern twin-engine aircraft, travelers can ride the 13-hour flight to Durban from London’s Heathrow in total comfort, three times a week. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner uses composite fuel, meaning it can fly further and on more affordable fuel, making it more economical than other long-haul airplanes. Because of this, British Airways was able to make an expansion in its flight routes to include Durban. More than 100,000 passengers travel between the United Kingdom and Durban, annually, so the route was added as part of a £4.5 billion, five-year investment plan.

Regular Scheduled Flights add to Convenience

While subject to change, the flights from London to Durban at the time of writing take place every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday, and will go directly from Heathrow to King Shaka International Airport in Durban. British Airways will evaluate the route in the upcoming months to determine if it has been successful and if more days need to be added to the flight route to accommodate customers. The 787 Dreamliner has three cabins with 214 seats. In the World Traveler cabin, there are 154 seats. In the World Traveler Plus cabin, there is a 25 seat capacity, and in the Club World cabin, there are 35 seats available.

New Route, New Opportunities

This new route is not just good for travelers, though, but also for the people who live and work in Durban, because the new route opens up more opportunities for tourism, business, and manufacturing, which will help strengthen the economy in Durban. In the past, the United Kingdom has been one of Durban’s best markets for bringing in tourists and business. To strengthen that relationship, the tourism bureau in Durban has launched an extensive, two-year marketing campaign with British Airways to entice more people to travel to Durban from London via the new route.

If travelers are interested in other areas of South Africa, they can catch one of the twice-daily flights from Heathrow to Johannesburg, or one of the daily flights to Cape Town, both of which operate all year-round. British Airways has plans to double the Cape Town flights during the South African summer season, which runs from late December through late March. The airline will also add three weekly flights from Gatwick airport in London to Cape Town.

Interested travelers who want to take advantage of this new route have even more incentive: In honor of the new route launch, British Airways is offering discounts up to 13 percent on return fares. World Traveler launch fares start at around £418, while the World Traveler Plus starts at approximately £850 and the Club World fare begins at roughly £1,800.
