Interesting Alternatives to Aluminum for Santa Ana Outdoor Building Signs

December 14 01:20 2018

Santa Ana, CA – Dec 13, 2018 – According to research, consumers are more likely to remember your business from your sign than they are from your TV or radio ads. And with more than 85% of your business’s potential customers living within a five-mile radius of your business location, what better way to take advantage of this than with a stunning outdoor building sign?

When it comes to attractively designed, professional manufactured, and strategically installed fascia signs, aluminum is a favorite among the sign materials. Thin, lightweight, but very rigid and strong, aluminum is perfect for long-term and permanent use. It also comes in several thicknesses, depending on what they’re used for.

But if you have some hesitations about getting signs made of aluminum, such as cost, weight, appearance, there are other sign substrates that give you the advantages of aluminum while avoiding some of its disadvantages.

We reached out to Bill McInerney at Black Parrot Sign Studio, a Santa Ana outdoor signs company, and he shares with us three types of aluminum composite materials that you might want to use for your outdoor building signs rather than the usual aluminum.

1. Dibond

Dibond has been around for over 15 years. It’s the perfect choice for business owners who are looking for a thicker alternative to aluminum. Dibond is made of two thin aluminum sheets with a solid plastic core. It weighs half as much as aluminum does and is more shock absorbent. Dibond’s high-quality surface is also a popular choice for digital photo printing and mounting as it protects both digital- and screen-printed graphics.

Just like aluminum, dibond is very durable and can be used for long-term signage use. A dibond sign panel is ten times stronger than an aluminum sheet of 0.040” thickness.

2. Alumalite

Alumalite is a strong and highly rigid aluminum composite panel that is also thicker than ordinary aluminum. With a high-density, corrugated plastic core that is reinforced by aluminum surfaces on both sides, it is resistant to warping. Alumalite makes for excellent outdoor signs because of its ability to withstand the elements. Its core does not swell, corrode, rot, or delaminate even after prolonged exposure to water.

Alumalite’s aluminum surface can come with high-gloss paint that is guaranteed to resist cracking, chipping, and peeling. It weighs around the same as aluminum and is five times stronger than dibond.

3. ARMOUR-Wood

ARMOUR-Wood is the most rigid among the aluminum composite panels, with its solid wood core permanently sealed between two sheets of aluminum. It is extremely heavy duty and can stand against harsh weather conditions. ARMOUR-wood is also rustproof and waterproof. They also come with edge caps that give your sign a professional finish as well as permanently seal their edges.

Though their shapes cannot be as easily customized as other sign materials, ARMOUR-wood signs can come in a wide selection of sizes and can accommodate full-color designs and detailed artwork.

Santa Ana Outdoor Building Sign Company

Whether you’re looking at using aluminum, dibond, alumalite, or ARMOUR-wood for your outdoor business signage, an important (but sometimes overlooked) thing to consider would be the signs provider you’ll be working with to produce your sign.

The sign material wouldn’t make that much of a difference on your potential customers if your sign was poorly crafted and badly designed. Partnering with an established signage company that has excellent taste in sign design, has extensive knowledge in marketing, and delivers high-quality work is key.
