Bob Taylor, founder and owner of Taylor Guitars in El Cajon, California participated in the Cajon Valley Union School District (CVUSD) World of Work Week (#CVWOWWeek), held November 13th through the 16th, to show how his childhood dream turned into a thriving company. During this week, seven San Diego companies connected with the Cajon Valley students through virtual Meet a Pro chats which broadcasted live to Cajon Valley classrooms and gave thousands of students a behind the scenes look at fascinating career options. The last day of #CVWOWWeek brought students to Taylor Guitars.
In the World of Work sponsored Meet a Pro, Bob explains how his company uses something called Finding Your Fit to place the correct guitar with the right owner for it. He used this idea to apply that to kids finding their fit in the world of work. Bob says, “If you can find your fit I think that you can be successful and have a really happy life because if you do the thing that you are good at and the thing that you can contribute well to, it’s so much better than if you are doing something that you are not so good at or somebody forced you into, and then you aren’t as happy.” Bob understands how important it is to develop skills that come naturally to you so your job isn’t work, it’s your passion. The World of Work program that Cajon Valley has integrated into everyday learning is all about this idea!
When Bob Taylor was sixteen he made his own guitar at school. Finding a love for guitars and building them sparked a passion and love in Bob and three years later, at only nineteen years old, he and his business partner Kurt Listug founded Taylor Guitars. Now with more than 700 employees and two factories, Taylor Guitars is the biggest manufacturer of guitars in the United States. The World of Work and CVUSD wants to make more success stories like Bob Taylor’s happen for their students as they prepare them for the future by exposing them to amazing career-based learning opportunities, like the Meet a Pro Chats.
