Cerion Advanced Materials to Display its Expertise in Nanomaterials During Defense Manufacturing Conference 2018

November 28 06:05 2018

“Developing and scaling performance nanomaterials for military applications is a complex, highly-specialized skillset,” said Landon Mertz, CEO of Cerion.

Rochester, NY – November 27, 2018 – Cerion Advanced Materials (Cerion) today announced its participation in the Defense Manufacturing Conference (DMC) 2018. Cerion will exhibit at Booth # 105.

DMC, the principal national forum for government, industry, and academia to exchange perspectives and information about critical Department of Defense (DoD) manufacturing technologies, is being held December 3 – 6 at the Music City Center in Nashville.

Founded in 2007, Cerion is the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance metal, metal oxide and ceramic nanomaterials which are used in a wide range of industrial and defense products and systems. Cerion is currently working with the DoD on the development of a scalable process to manufacture tungsten carbide nanopowder for next-generation small-caliber ammunition.

There are a number of factors that have traditionally impacted the DoD’s ability to access the nanomaterials in a way that would enhance war fighter and battle systems capabilities. Chief among them are the ability to precisely manipulate nanomaterials at the atomic level to enhance performance, and being able to manufacture these materials at an industrial scale. Building upon expertise developed over decades at Eastman Kodak for photographic film emulsions, Cerion has heavily invested in infrastructure and highly qualified personnel to develop research, development and engineering processes to create complex and cost-effective nanomaterials that are accessible to the market. The depth of experience and knowledge created by this investment enables Cerion to develop solutions to complex challenges where other companies fail to deliver.

“Developing and scaling performance nanomaterials for military applications is a complex, highly-specialized skillset,” said Landon Mertz, CEO of Cerion. “Much like our work for industrial customers, our vision for the defense market is to enable transition of next-generation nanomaterials to the warfighter to provide over-matched performance. Our participation in DMC reflects our continued goal to educate the defense industry on the performance advantages of nanomaterials, and Cerion’s role in successfully bringing unique nanomaterials to the warfighter.”

During DMC, Mertz and Cerion’s Director of Business Development Chris Skipper will be on hand to meet with event attendees and representatives of the media at booth #105.

About Cerion Advanced Materials

Established in 2007, Cerion is an industry leader in the science of designing, scaling and industrial-rate manufacturing of metal, metal oxide and ceramic nanomaterials.

The cost of developing advanced expertise in nanomaterials is prohibitively expensive and time intensive, resulting in a significant barrier to entry for companies considering the use of nanotechnology. To address this, Cerion has pioneered a business model of rapid and cost-effective research, development, scale-up and manufacturing of nanomaterials as a service. The firm’s customers are multi-national, large-cap industrial companies and the domestic defense market. Typical customers who work with Cerion are developing either new products or systems intended to leverage the overmatched performance benefits nanomaterials can provide.

Cerion’s position in the market is enabled by three strategic competitive advantages: a deep and demonstrated capability in a.) the precision design and customization of both nanomaterial size and non-size attributes, b.) effective processes to scale from the lab to prototype and industrial-rate manufacturing, and c.) industry leading, cost-effective manufacturing systems and production capacities.
