Nov 22, 2018 – For children battling cancer, fairytales are often a fantasy escape to pass the time and pre-occupy long days of treatment and hospital stays. However, a group of college students are making make-believe a reality for children battling critical illnesses across the country through their fairytale visits.

Donning full princess and superhero costumes, these young adults spend hours having tea parties, posing for pictures, and of course, singing the songs closely tied to their magical appearances at hospitals, homes, and other events in between classes, internships and studying thanks to A Moment of Magic Foundation.

A Moment of Magic is a platform that engages college-age students in the ways of hands-on volunteering with children that are in need, suffering from illnesses or diseases, or batting any challenges whatsoever, across the US, free of charge.

“A Moment of Magic has provided me with a unique set of skills to approach patient care differently,” says Falyn Stein, former volunteer and part time princess, and now board member and pediatric ICU nurse.

“We are providing students with a unique, hands-on volunteer experience that teaches compassion and more importantly, cultivating unique experiences with the children we serve to foster positivity, imagination, and self-confidence,” added Kylee McGrane, Founder and Executive Director.

A Moment of Magic engage their young members in services such as Princess Visits, Superhero Visits, Personality Visits, Athlete Visits, Direct Family Support, Individual Visits, Bedside Visits, Group Visits, Story Readings, Special Events and Inter-family Connection. These visits to children in need help to restore ‘the magic of believing ‘in them, helping them to ‘just-be-a-kid’ and reminding them to be brave, strong, and fearless.

A Moment of Magic is currently recruiting more college students to join the cause and serve children with cancer in their own area. Applications to start a chapter are currently live until the end of December 2018.
