Cyber Crime Investigation Expert Warn Businesses About Fake Emails – Digitpol

October 23 01:25 2018
Criminals are using false emails to target business owners in the USA. The cost of Cyber Crime around the world has reached $450 billion. Digitpol has said this will increase unless business owners increase their security precautions.

A leading Cyber Crime Investigation company is warning business owners and key personnel in the USA to be on their guard over false emails. Digitpol, a licensed and accredited investigation agency specializing in operational support and investigative services to fight against transnational crimes has said criminals are using credible email addresses and domain names to defraud supply companies.

The cyber crime investigation experts want business owners and key personnel to be on their guard with reference to the emails they receive. According to Digitpol, Cybercriminals are registering domains that look very similar to well-known businesses and universities in order to be able to defraud supply companies and attack their computers; unfortunately, it is working.

Criminals are using the fake domain names to register a credible email address and contact suppliers and order high-quality goods such as IT equipment. The Cybercriminals are using a credible purchase order and the supplier ship the goods to the customer. However, the delivery address is fraudulent which means the correct customer is not receiving the goods and the supplier does not receive payment.

A spokesman for Digitpol said: “This type of crime is on the increase and is having a serious financial impact on supply companies. The problem has become so serious that some supply companies could be forced to make employees redundant to cover the financial loss, while others may be forced to close down.”

Digitpol is warning supply companies to make extra checks when receiving orders from new and old customers. The cyber crime investigation experts have said by making simple checks, supply companies can avoid being a victim of a fraudulent order.

The simple checks that should be made include:

1. Check the grammar on the order. A lot of cybercriminals use bad grammar which stands out

2. Check the email address against the customer’s website.

3. Check the telephone number against the customer’s website to make sure it is real.

4. Contact the customer to make sure the order is real. Do not contact the number on the purchase order, visit the website and use the telephone number on their website.

Through making extra checks against orders supply companies can avoid being a victim of cybercrime.
