WCCO Cultural Development Fund helps the Grand Canal Ecological Restoration

October 15 22:30 2018

On October 12, the Forum on Ecological Development, a sub-forum of the 2018 World Canal Cities Forum, was held by the World Historic and Cultural Canal Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO) in Yangzhou, China. With the theme of “The Great Canal nourishes lives on both sides,” the Forum brought together the leading figures engaged in the coordinated protection of the canals worldwide. Participants discussed advanced theories, cases and technologies with respect to the canal development in a bid to push forward the formation of a new landscape in which mankind and nature exist harmoniously.

Ecological protection is a protracted war that involves all of mankind. The introduction of market mechanisms is conducive to accelerating the resolution of pains and difficulties in environmental protection. In the future, the Bank of China (BoC) will join hands with the World Historic and Cultural Canal Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO) to explore how to effectively couple finance with ecological progress and formulate future plans that are ecologically fit, inclusive and integrated with various resources. With the World Canal Cultural Development Foundation serving as the financial platform, BoC will tease out high-quality Grand Canal Cultural Belt projects, increase green finance, build an environment for ecological protection, and encourage governmental, corporate and civil society engagement in ecological progress.

The “Jiangsu Consensus on Ecological Development and Protection of the World’s Canals” was finally reached as a call to canal-related co-development, sharing, planning, protection, restoration and mechanism innovation. It will ultimately usher in a canal civilization with beautiful, vital, ecological and open characteristics.
